Info

Discover the excitement and artistry of Raku Ceramics in this hands-on workshop! Raku, an ancient Japanese pottery tradition, is celebrated for its unpredictability and the truly one-of-a-kind results it produces. Each piece emerges from the fire with unique textures, colors, and patterns—no two creations are ever alike.

In this class, you’ll have the opportunity to:

1. Glaze Three Pre-Made Pieces: Select from a variety of beautiful glaze options and apply them to ceramic pieces that are ready for firing. Learn about glaze techniques, the chemistry of Raku glazes, and how they react to the dramatic firing process.

2. Participate in the Raku Firing Process: Experience the thrill of watching your artwork transform in real time. Your pieces will be heated in a Raku kiln outside to over 1,800°F, then carefully removed while still glowing hot and subjected to rapid cooling techniques like reduction chambers or open-air cooling.

3. Create Something Truly Unique: The magic of Raku lies in its unpredictability—each piece tells a story through its cracks, smoky patterns, and vibrant, iridescent finishes.

Whether you're a seasoned ceramic artist or completely new to the craft, this class is designed to inspire creativity and offer a memorable experience. By the end, you’ll take home three completely unique, one-of-a-kind Raku creations to cherish or gift to someone special. Ages 13+
